The celebrations of AC Milan’s 18th league title

The celebrations of Milan’s 18th league title finished with the marvellous view of fireworks in the colours of the Italian national flag – an incredible spectacle dedicated to the champions of Italy.
First, an impressive win against Cagliari, then celebration on the field with fireworks, music, over 80,000 fans and the cup – that’s how this special day finished for the Rossoneri.

MILAN – Here is what Milan CEO Adriano Galliani, coach Massimiliano Allegri and his players had to say following tonight’s game against Cagliari:

ADRIANO GALLIANI:
“I didn’t expect so many people and I hadn’t seen this kind of enthusiasm for a while. Apparently, the title-drought had its effect on the fans. President Berlusconi fell in love with this club 25 years ago and as long as he feels this passion for the team, Milan will be in the elite of football.
Franco Baresi and Paolo Maldini were legendary players, that’s why their numbers were retired. I think that no one ever will wear number 6, Baresi’s number. Maldini’s situation is different, we’ve agreed that his son could wear it”.

MASSIMILIANO ALLEGRI:
“It’s been a fantastic night, a marvellous party to crown a wonderful day. For me it was the first time: the feeling of seeing a sea of red and black waiting for us in the streets of Milan is beyond description. It was important to do well this evening, in front of our fans and the President. The lads played with the right attitude, even if it wasn’t easy seeing that we had two days off after the Cup semi-final. This is the triumph of a team that has improved steadily since July 19”.

MASSIMO AMBROSINI:
“On behalf of the team, I want to thank the club, the medical staff and, most of all, the President. We’re also grateful to the fans, who have been very close to us today. I’ve never denied my desire to stay at Milan, but me and the others know that times have changed and that the club has to make decisions on contract renewals. On the other hand, the management can’t forget that they’re dealing with players who have given a lot to this club”.

CLARENCE SEEDORF:
“It’s a fantastic way to end this day. A big storm was forecast for today, but in the end the weather was nice, we saw a red and black city and a Piazza Duomo packed with fans, and then we hit four in front of our crowd. What else can you ask for? I got moved, I’m an emotional man. These are the moments that have helped me through the last nine years”.

GIANLUCA ZAMBROTTA:
“We’ve had a great season. We’ve been at the top of the standings for the most part of the campaign, so we deserve to celebrate with our fans at the San Siro. I’ve had the luck to play in some nice stadiums, but this evening with this crowd it’s been fantastic”.

PATO:
“This is a special moment. I don’t know if I managed to fully realize what we’ve accomplished. It’s wonderful. I’m happy for having helped Milan this season. The league title is ours now and we won’t give it away easily. We’re a great group and we want to keep winning. I want to stay here for many years, because here everything is fantastic, I’m really happy”.

FILIPPO INZAGHI:
“The Milan fans are close to the team even in times of difficulty, they’re unique. They were close to me during these difficult months. These are things that you can’t find elsewhere and that’s why I’d like to finish my career here. I thank all of my teammates for the gift they gave me this evening: I had the chance to play a couple if minutes, while some players, who have done a lot for the team during the season, were in the stands. This was my comeback and I hope to be ready for the summer training camp. I want to be my old self again, the one you saw against Real Madrid before the injury. Playing with my new teammates would have been a lot of fun, but it’s OK as it is. The contract renewal is not a question of money for me: I know that I have a certain age and that I’ve just recovered from a serious injury. However, I can’t see myself at any other club, I hope to finish my career here”.

MARK VAN BOMMEL:
“I have won a few titles in my career… but the celebrating the Scudetto in front of this crowd was awesome. I’m glad to be here at Milan and I’m grateful to Mr Galliani, who changed my life by bringing me to the club. Football is a strange world: in January, one Sunday I played in Munich and three days later I fought for Milan in the Italian Cup”.

RODNEY STRASSER:
“I’m pleased with what the team has done. Today I even won against Inter with the Youth Team. I took a taxi and joined the first team half an hour after the derby, because I didn’t want to miss the celebrations in the city of Milan”.
